The videos below are from the wedding & Kerala.:: Kanheri Caves :: On the 17th of December we made a trip to a place called Kanheri Caves at the Borivali National Park in Bombay. These caves are older than the Elephanta Caves, about 2000 years. The acoustics were amazing! Filesize : 2MB :: Mehendi :: We had a Mehendi (Henna) party with some amazing Mehendi artists. Not only did the girls get the designs done on their hands, the boys also got tattoos all over their bodies... The food too was amazing. Filesize 1: 15MB 2: 15.7MB :: Singers :: The singers we had at our wedding. Traditional bengali songs, written by very influential people. Video 1 :: Video 2 Filesize 1: 8.8MB 2: 9.7MB :: Cricket :: Cricket is played in street in India. Here you can see some kids playing the sport in a very improvised way. Filesize: 6.4MB :: Auto Rikshaws :: Auto Rickshaws are the best way to get around Bombay, chances of getting ripped off are low. They are nice and open. Cheap. Easy to find. Now the bad parts. They are unstable 3 wheelers, go around a bend sharply and it turns turtle, no suspension, no safety what so ever. Here is Jennifer's perspective in three little videos from the inside of an Auto Rickshaw. Video 1 :: Video 2 :: Video 3 Filesize 1: 3MB 2: 8.4MB 3: 6.8MB :: Kathakali :: Kathakali is one of the oldest theatre forms in the world. It originated in the area of southwestern India now known as the state of Kerala. Kathakali is a group presentation, in which dancers take various roles in performances traditionally based on themes from Hindu mythology, especially the two epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. One of the most interesting aspects of Kathakali is its elaborate make-up code. Characters are categorized according to their nature. This determines the colours used in the make-up. The faces of noble male characters, such as virtuous kings, the divine hero Rama, etc., are predominantly green. Characters of high birth who have an evil streak, such as the demon king Ravana, are allotted a similar green make-up, slashed with red marks on the cheeks. Extremely angry or excessively evil characters wear predominantly red make-up and a flowing red beard. Forest dwellers such as hunters are represented with a predominantly black make-up base. Women and ascetics have lustrous, yellowish faces. Now have a look at the videos. Video 1 :: Video 2 Filesize 1: 4MB 2: 4MB :: The Famous Petri Video :: Here we are at Munnar, a city in Kerala know for it's tea. The second most famous Finn in the world, Petri does a good impersonation of an elf! Filesize: 2MB :: Everybody loves monkeys :: Monkeys playing with each other at Periyar. Set high in the ranges of the Western Ghats, in Kerala, is the Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve. The park has a picturesque lake at the heart of the sanctuary. Formed with the building of a dam in 1895, this reservoir meanders around the contours of the wooded hills, providing a perennial source of water for the local wildlife. Filesize: 6.6MB :: Monkey lovin', like on the Discovery Channel :: Give me some of the Monkey Lovin' or some beer! Filesize: 6MB :: Cutting coconuts :: The locals ate and drank from the the coconut. "Toddy-tapping" involved the collection and fermentation of coconut juice. This coconut toddy tasted vaguely alcoholic. Or, it could have been the burning hot sun at 10:00 in the morning. Video The husks of the coconuts were removed, beaten with a wooden implement (to remove the excess moisture), left to dry in the sun, and then ingeniously transformed into rope Video Filesize 1: 2.4MB 2: 7.4MB :: A hard working elephant :: Elephants -- sometime are regarded purely as "beasts of burden" although this is neither strictly correct nor very kind. True, they can carry or haul heavy loads but they also can be warriors, royal pets, trekking transporter and entertainers. It all depends upon their training. So, if you love elephants (and doesn't just about everyone?) and would like to see something nice, have a look at this Video Filesize: 4.1MB |
