Time to start drinking my piss.
“That put the thing in a new light. Ben stopped nibbling his apple. Tom swept his brush daintily back and forth – stepped back to note the effect – added a touch here and there – criticized the effect again – Ben watching every move and getting more and more interested, more and more absorbed. Presently he said: “Say, Tom, let me whitewash a little.””
Rather than force the kids to help with chores, we make it fun and competitive. Here in this gallery, Arjun is helping me fold the laundry and helping put it away as fast as he can. Happily. I wonder how long I can go Tom Sawyer on them before they wise up.
So, you’ve probably heard tons about India and Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup finals. No? Well, you must be American
Today, Tricia picked Eve up from school and on NPR they were talking about India beating Pakistan and the fact the Indians will be meeting Sri Lankans in the finals. Eve is listening very carefully. Here is the conversation that ensued.
Eve: Mama, you know what?
Tricia: What?
Eve: India and Sri Lanka will be playing the next match.
Tricia: I know, baba is very excited
Eve: Me too, but it’s going to be difficult
Tricia: What will be difficult?
Eve: The Indians wear blue and the Sri Lankans wear blue. And… they both look the same. I will not know which team is which.
Tricia: *silence*
I am pretty certain Tricia has no idea what the Sri Lankan colors are. Eve is a smart and observant little girl. She picks everything up very fast. Whenever we meet people called Michael, she says oh like Michael Krasny or when she meets Peters, she goes, oh I know a Peter, his name is Peeeeter Segaaaal.
Now for your viewing pleasure here are a couple of pictures.

From Eve’s teacher:
Goodbye Everyone,
Hopefully all of the April calendars made it home safely… in case your child hasn’t told you yet: TOMORROW is Backwards Day! This in not an April Fool’s joke!
During today’s ending circle we discussed possibilities of what one could do tomorrow: Clothes backwards, shoes on the wrong feet, underwear on your head and YES chocolate in your child’s lunch box! Well the possibilities are endless!
Needles to say, the children were excited and so are we!
Hello,
Judith and Carol
–
This. Is. Awesome.
This morning Arjun walked into our bedroom around 5am or so. He quietly got onto my side of the bed and pushed himself into me. After squirming for less than a minute but what seemed like eternity to me, he slithered up and wrapped himself around my head. Arms, legs and the everything in between. Although I love that boy, I don’t want his diaper in my face. He unfortunately fell asleep immediately and I could do nothing but slowly try to extricate myself, but resistance proved to be futile.
Arjun has tons of cars. And he sits around “zooming” his cars for hours on end. Often he will zoom them all the way under the hutch. My job is to use the vacuum cleaner to suck them all out.
Today he managed to jam about a dozen cars under the hutch. I was at the dining table reading the newspaper and drinking coffee. Tricia was out with Eve at some birthday party. So, Arjun walks over to the hutch and lays himself down on the floor and peeks under. Sticks his hand under and manages to retrieve a couple of the cars. He sat there and looked at the hutch and thought about for a minute or so. He walks over to the couch, picks up a large legal sized manila envelope and sticks it under the hutch.
At this point I stopped what I was doing to surreptitiously watch him. First he jabbed at the cars and mumbled “That’s not working”. Then he started doing sweeping motions with the envelope and one by one swept all the cars out. When he was done, he put the envelope back on the couch and got back to playing.
What I constantly forget as I watch Eve learn and figure things out is how Arjun is figuring things out too. That boy amazes me. He is smart, brave, social, loving and independent.
Deepa called Tricia and asked us to join them for a Black and White event at their house. Tricia and I spoke about it and realized it may be hard for us find a baby sitter for new year’s eve. Plus it’s Eve’s birthday so we really didn’t want to ditch her and go out by ourselves.
Deepa told us that the event was going to be kid friendly, so we said, what the heck, let’s go. We made the sure the kids had plenty of sleep the afternoon of so they’d be in a good mood. Overall both the kids are super easy, so I wasn’t too concerned.
We were one of the first folks out there and that gave the kids some time to get adjusted. Soon people started pouring in and it got animated quite fast. There were about half dozen kids in all. Unfortunately, the kids were watching a lot of TV and at some point somebody started watching Spiderman 3. Now, this movie is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense action violence and at some point Eve came sobbing because the movie scared her. But that’s life; there were older kids who wanted more than Nick Jr type fare.
Regardless, the kids had a lot of fun. Around 11pm I asked if they wanted to go to bed. Sleepily they shook their head. A few minutes to midnight, Deepak got everyone to the living and we danced for a bit with each other. The kids too danced the night away.
At about 1am, we packed up and headed back home. Both kids fell asleep in the car, we transferred them to their bed and they slept in the next morning…We were all sleepy the next morning, but heck, we rung in 2011 as a family. That was fun.

Not only is that terrible in general, but you just KNOW Billy's going to open the root present first, and then everyone will have to wait while the heap is rebuilt.
Love xkcd!
I was scrolling through recommended movies in Netflix and I came across a movie called “Jesus Camp” made in 2006. After checking out the synopsis and fact that it got fantastic reviews, I had to watch it. The movie is about 3 kids being raised by Evangelical Christians and the community they live in.
The shocking documentary examines the life of 3 kids between the ages of 8-12; Levi, Rachael and Tory. There wasn’t anything in this movie I wasn’t already aware of; it put together in very graphic detail how little children are being brainwashed to “take back America for Christ”. This documentary was tedious and repetitive a few times and the commentary by the radio host Mike Papantonio was a bit trite, but overall delivered as promised.
The picture was of a very extreme conservative movement reminiscent of the Hitler Youth. They are a low tolerance bunch with hate simmering just under the sheen of religion. There were more than a few comparisons with Muslims and their motives while they were doing the same ironic thing. They call themselves the Army of Christ…
What saddens me is that society instead of integrating, is getting more polarized by people who claim huge conspiracies in evolution, global warming, ethnic beliefs, abortion rights and more. I am willing to live and let live. Why can’t you?
